FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Where is your farm located?
The farm is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Virginia—an area rich in farming heritage and known for its rolling hills, open green pastures, and deep agricultural roots. It’s where Alesia is proud to raise her cattle and continue her family's multi-generational farming legacy.
  • How long is your beef dry-aged?
Depending on the processor, Brown Cow beef is dry-aged for 21 days. Dry-aging is a natural process done at the processor where beef is hung in a controlled environment to enhance flavor and tenderness. Even the ground beef benefits from this process, making it rich and full of flavor.
  • What kind of cattle do you raise?
The herd includes beef cattle influenced by Black and Red Angus, along with some Simmental genetics. This combination produces beef that’s well-marbled, tender, and consistently high in quality.
  • Is your beef grain-fed?
Yes, the cattle are pasture-raised and grain-finished. They enjoy a balanced diet that includes corn grown by Alesia's Dad right here on the farm. Grain-finishing helps develop marbling, which is the fine intramuscular white fat that gives beef its juicy, tender texture and rich flavor.
  • Where can I find beef recipes?
You can find delicious recipes and cooking tips at Beef. It’s What's For Dinner.® (https://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/).
  • How do I contact you with other questions?
Please fill out the contact form to submit questions. While Alesia is busy on the farm, she is happy to answer any questions you may have.
  • Do you offer wholesale for restaurants?
Yes, please reach out through the contact form if you’re interested in partnering.
  • Why is your farm named Brown Cow?
The farm is named in memory of Alesia's red Border Collie, Charlie Brown Cow, a rescue whose fiery red coat and loyal heart inspired both her love of red cattle and the spirit behind her brand. ❤️
  • What is your return policy?
Because beef is perishable and custom-processed, a strict no returns, no refunds policy is followed.
  • Are all animals born on your farm and is your beef Virginia Verified?
Yes—every animal is bred, born, and raised right here on the farm. Brown Cow beef is source-verified and part of the Virginia Verified Beef program, with all processing done locally here in Virginia.
  • Are you on social media?
Yes! Follow Brown Cow Farms on Instagram [@browncowfarms] to stay connected, see behind-the-scenes farm life, and get updates on beef.
  • Are you Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certified?
